ACTIVITIES

Activities on and Around the Lake

Peace and Quiet
As the Least Populated County in New Jersey, this area is a quiet getaway.

A perfect place for birdwatching, non-motorized boating, walking, and quiet contemplation, less than half an hour from Mountain Creek ski resort, the Appalachian Trail, and Crystal Springs Golf Club.

Golf
15-20 minutes away at Crystal Springs Golf Resort and Black Bear Golf Club

Hiking
The cabin is a 15 minute drive from the Appalachian Trail. Lake Gerard includes more than 600 acres, which adjoin the Gerard Woods, now a nature preserve.

Birdwatching
Avian wildlife is plentiful, and the cabin is a perfect base from which to birdwatch.

Kayaking
Kayaking on the lake allows for exploring the shoreline and details of the lake itself. The property is less than an hour from the Delaware water gap, a great area to explore by kayak.

Stand Up Paddleboarding
With no motorized watercraft, the lake is perfect for stand up paddle boarding (in low water seasons, you can actually see the remains of the old ice harvesting platforms).

HISTORY & NATURE

A Little History and Information About the Natural Surroundings of the Cabin

Originally, Lake Gerard was an ice farm. Before electronic refrigeration, workers would work on platforms out in the lake during the cold season. They would cut ice blocks directly from the lake, and from there they would be shipped to peoples homes for their ‘ice boxes’.

Lake Gerard backs up onto a nature preserve. The property is near to the Appalachian Trail and Gerard Woods became the last piece added to the Appalachian Trail to make it an unbroken trail from Georgia to Maine.

Nearby, you can learn more about the geologic history of the area at theĀ Franklin Mineral Museum.
