About Lake Gerard

Originally an ice farm, Lake Gerard was where workers cut blocks of ice directly from the lake each winter — long before modern refrigeration. Those blocks were shipped to nearby homes for use in ice boxes.

Today, the lake backs up onto a nature preserve. The property sits near the Appalachian Trail, and Gerard Woods became the final piece added to make it an unbroken path from Georgia to Maine.
